The Case of the Executive Mauling

Our adventure starts in Mama JoAnn’s Catfish and Ribs, where the heroes sat eating their delicious food. A dryad walked in and gave Alexander a copy of the Daily Disappointment (I mean Daily Oklahoman) with a front-page article highlighted. The article detailed the apparent animal mauling of the chief financial officer of Chattam Oil and Gas, Aubrey Bull. His son was also missing. Correctly deducing that there was more to the story than a freak accident and that he would need some help, he recruited the assistance of the rest of his party, and they decided to go to the deceased man’s house in Nichols Hills.

Once there, Davvi chose to step aside, as trespassing on a crime scene is “super illegal,” but the others managed to convince the policeman stationed there to let them in with documents forged by Lance. As Davvi waited for the others to commit a felony, a raven messenger from Coyote landed on her and told her to “keep [the god] Coyote’s interests in mind” as she looked into the case. The team’s investigation showed that several coyotes attacked Aubrey Bull outside, killing him, and then escaped through a stream behind the house. Lance summoned Bull’s ghost, which was reliving the man’s death. An investigation into the house revealed that someone broke into the front door but otherwise left no clues in kidnapping Geoffry (Aubrey Bull’s son.)

The team’s next destination was that of Melinda Bull’s mother’s house, since that’s where the policeman said that she would be. Luke attempted to get an in with his charm, but the grieving widow rebuffed him. At this point, [metagame] Jonas used Lance’s aspect Dignity for Sale to declare that Lance was Geoffry’s true father and that Lance knew Melinda Bull Biblically. [/metagame] Lance stripped to his birthday suit and had Luke claw him a little bit. He then approached the house and claimed that wild coyotes were trying to kill him. Melinda bought it. The team managed to get one pertinent clue out of her— she had received a phone call threatening Aubrey’s death, if he did not stop a drilling deal. Alexander traced the call to a payphone outside of Crossroads Mall, the known hangout of a gang of hexencoyotes.

The crew arrived at the mostly abandoned mall in the evening, and the parking lot was mostly empty. First, they tried calling the hexencoyotes out and intimidating the baby out of them. However, that did not work, but Davvi was aware of waiting enemies, and she warned the rest of them. Lance used his demonic SIM chip to call a demon who alerted them that they were essentially surrounded by enemies and that several more were on the way. A fight ensued. Highlights include the lethal marksmanship of Davvi, pools of molten and burning asphalt on the parking lot from a botched spell from Lance, Lance’s car smashing through a strip mall and running down a pair of untransformed hexencoyotes, and Luke battling with the leader of the gang, Joe Clade. The team killed most of their opponents, but they managed to capture Joe and one other. They managed to hide in a van that was veiled by Lance until the cops arrived. Meanwhile, Davvi carefully hid away the hexencoyote belts to protect her employer.

The team brought their prisoners to Lance’s home, where they interrogated them. While Alexander attempted to use his Sight on them, Davvi used her ability to instill hysteria upon him to prevent him from finding the belts. The hit was intense, and Alexander was left with a moderate consequence of believing himself to be sieging Troy. However, Luke’s Investigation skill ultimately defeated Davvi’s attempts to hide the belts. The others grew suspicious of her. The team managed to find out that the hexencoyotes were hired by and being supplied by Derryl Colbert. They gave up his phone number, which the team used to track down his house. The fight there was brief, and they recovered the baby, as well as learn that Derryl was being aided by the minor goddess Circe.

Goon of the Season

The session began with Davvi receiving a message from Coyote informing her that she needed to meet with Lance to discuss Coyote’s current problem, so she headed toward Lance’s house. While in route, she noticed that she was being followed by a pickup truck, but she continued on and entered Lance’s compound. Meanwhile…

Alexander received a message from Athena informing him to investigate Coyote and see if he was involved in the hexencoyote problem. As he exited his apartment, two goons assaulted him. In the fight, Alexander received a minor wound to his genitals but managed to escape and race to Luke’s house. The two realized that they needed to go to the usual meetup: Lance’s house.

As Davvi entered Lance’s place, doors opened before her, and she made her way to the study where Lance and Coyote were sitting, though Lance was completely oblivious to the god’s presence. There the god of mischief sat, lounging in a smoking jacket and a hovering monocle, sipping on something in a highball glass. He informed them that he was being framed, and he was tasking them, his emissary and favorite attorney, to prove his case. He recommended that they start where they last stopped.

When Alexander and Luke arrived at Lance’s manor, they found a pickup truck with two goons standing outside of the home. Luke attempted conversation, but they wouldn’t have it. The two heroes made a loop around the block, as Davvi and Lance took notice from the study. Then, Alexander’s car racing, they attempted to run over the goon standing outside of the car, but he leapt over the oncoming vehicle. Unfortunately, Alexander’s car was destroyed as it careened into the goons’ truck. A quick fight then ensued, and the goons were revealed to be gruffs, agents of Summer.

Following Coyote’s recommendation, the heroes went to Derryl Colbert’s house to further investigate. There, they found a dead old woman, naked on the floor. A quick investigation revealed that she died when she had transformed from the cat form that her own son had made her into back into her human form. Apparently, the collar’s small size crushed her throat, and she died. Compelled by the guilt of his Peter Parker Syndrome, Luke, the teams best investigator was overcome and almost forced to sit out the scene, but Davvi snapped him out of it with her aspect Everyone’s So Serious! Further investigation revealed a book of various spirits’ true names, a phone reference to Mrs. Merryweather (notorious drug dealer), and a lock of Circe’s hair.

Just as their investigation of the house was winding down, however, the team was attacked by the two goons that attacked Alexander earlier. As the fight went on, the cover of the goons disappeared, revealing them to be trolls, agents of Winter. The team was overcoming them when the front door was bashed down by four malks. Feeling overwhelmed, Luke used his aspect Coming Out of the Woodwork to have an elder gruff show up looking for Davvi but instead battle the forces of Winter. The party then retreated from the doomed building and fled to Mama JoAnn’s Catfish and Ribs.

There, the team talked to Mama JoAnn to see if she had any words of wisdom about the situation. All she told them was that Summer was mad at Coyote, thinking that he had arranged the murder of the oil executive and that Winter was mad at Athena, apparently since she was involving herself in Fairy affairs. At that point, [a player— can’t remember which] used a fate point to call in Cactus Jack, the local Warden. Once there, the team engaged him in social combat to force him to admit that he failed in fixing the Colbert situation. He promised to do what he could to get Summer to hold off on harming Davvi.

The next stop was the Meteorological Research Center in Normal, where the party hoped to talk to Summer. There, they found a weather sprite who was willing to talk some. Things got dicey, and Davvi was forced to abandon the group, while police arrived. The group was able to talk their way out of the situation, though, and they decided to go reinvestigate the hexencoyote belts. When Alexander used his Sight, he managed to see that Circe’s magic was involved in the construction of the belts. The team was able to use this information to convince the Summer Court that Coyote was innocent.

Now, the party must still contend with Circe, who is obviously going to be angry, and Winter, which has continued reason to be angry with Athena and Alexander. Of course, there are more threats in the world, too. Who knows what the group will face next…

White Limousine

Quick note: Shey wasn’t present, so neither was his character Luke, which was a shame, since, one, Shey would have liked this adventure, and two, I made the adventure hook for Luke. We had to improvise a little.

The adventure began with Luke out of town joining the Light Horse police as a secret undercover agent. (Note that the player characters are currently unaware of that.) He asked Alexander to pick up his mail, though, so there was Alexander, throwing out the junk mail(And going through Luke’s personal belongings) when he found a note in a blank envelope (no address or anything.) Curious, he opened it and found a short message describing how there would be an interesting exchange taking place at the loading dock of the Best Buy near May and 63rd at 2:30 am. It explained that Luke should look into it and bring friends. He then called Davvi and Lance over to Luke’s place. Redecorating was performed before they took off to deal with the situation.

Lance purchased a semi truck and stowed a 1960s model Mini Cooper in it. They then parked it in the lot area behind the Best Buy. Davvi and Alexander chose to pick spots outside of the truck, but Lance ordered his driver Alfred to remain in the cab. Meanwhile, Lance also set up a scry on the loading dock, using the two lighters from the truck. He sat in the trailer awaiting the arrival of the exchange parties.

Finally, two vehicles arrived. The first was a black Cadillac Escalade with darkened windows and spinners. The second was a white stretch limousine. A couple of stereotypical gangbangers stepped out of the SUV, one carrying a briefcase (black leather), and a man with a dapper white suit and a jeweled cane emerged from the limousine. After a brief conversation, a scantily clad beauty came out of the limo with a steel briefcase and walked up to one of the thugs. She then killed him with a kiss, and her male partner rammed the end of his cane through the mouth and out of the back of the head of the other.

At this point, the party had figured out that they were likely White Court Vampires and that something was definitely up. The male vampire attached something to the gangsters’ vehicle, and the two got into their own ride, which was moving in order to escape. Meanwhile, Davvi leapt atop the limo, Lance rammed the Mini out of the trailer, and Alexander went to Alfred. As Davvi dodged gunfire from the gangsters, Lance called Alexander and Alfred into the Mini, and they sped after the ongoing chase.

Just then, the Escalade exploded, and Lance ordered Alfred to give a good chase, as they followed the limousine south on May Avenue. The trunk of the limo opened, and a .50 caliber machine gun popped out to dissuade the crew. As Alexander made his way forward to shield the passengers, Alfred deftly maneuvered to dodge the first burst of fire. Then, the chase moved recklessly onto Northwest Expressway inbound. The next hail of bullets was partly deflected by Alexander, but one round put a hole in the radiator. Lance, having had enough, then hexed the terrible weapon, and Alfred gained ground.

Seeing his opportunity, Alex jumped into the open trunk of the limousine and, being unsure of the machine gun’s functionality, hacked it into further submission. The woman in the vehicle then started firing back at the Mini Cooper with a Galil one handed. Davvi attempted to disarm her with a kick from the top of the limo but at first failed. However, Alexander, burst through the backseat of the limousine, launching the male vampire forward. On her next attempt, Davvi kicked the assault rifle out of the vampiress’s hand.

Then, a terrible close combat broke out inside of the limousine. Davvi was able to join in through the window, and Lance decided to hex the vehicle by making both the gas and the accelerator pedals go to the floor. The limo began braking uncontrollably, and Alexander took out the male vampire. Unsatisfied with the damage, Lance made the fuel tank burst into flames, as the fight within continued.

Seeing the White Court Vampire blood (and hence its aphrodisiac effects [a temporary aspect]) spattered on Alexander, the vampiress inflicted her lust-inducing attack on Alexander. Davvi and Alexander fought back, but the flames began pouring in. Lance and Alfred pulled their stricken Mini beside the limo, and Lance made a mental attack upon the driver [need to pull name from notebook], allowing for his capture. The desperate fight continued as the heroes and the villainess all fought their way out. Fortunately, Davvi put down the succubus before she could do anymore damage, and the team retrieved both briefcases. As the police were on their way, and the Mini Cooper was done, the team was veiled by Lance, and they made their way back to his house.

Once there, they interviewed the limousine driver who informed them that he worked for Mrs. Merryweather. The group then opened the briefcases. One contained a magical dagger that Alexander’s Sight revealed was associated with the goddess Hecate. It was extremely powerful and could probably be used in an ascension ritual. The other contained three-eye, the magical drug. Lance consumed some and took some minor hits.

Note: before we get into the next adventure, we need to settle where Hecate’s dagger is going.

A Witchin' Good Time

We returned to the game, as Alexander and Davvi debated about what should be done with the dagger of Hecate. Davvi felt that since it was collected in North America (more of Coyote’s domain) it should go to Coyote. Alexander felt that since the dagger was an artifact related to the Olympian gods, it should go to Athena. Their argument was then interrupted by the appearance of Coyote himself. Lance, still tripping on three-eye, got a big look at him but did fine. [However, Jonas spent a fate point to make it such that Coyote was thrilled to see the still lustful Alexander there.] Coyote decided that it could go to the Olympians, so long as Alexander would return the favor himself some time (wink, wink, nudge, nudge.) Weirded out, Alexander accepted the deal. At this point, he tried to contact Hermes to take the dagger to Olympus.

Unfortunately, getting the dagger to the Olympians was going to take some time, and as it turned out, Lance’s house had visitors outside. Knowing that something was up, Luke went to the gate and began talking with what was probably a White Court vampire to see what was up. After an amusing social combat involving attempted seduction on the woman’s end and feigned cluelessness on Luke’s end, he made the group go away. The group then decided to hide the dagger in a warded safe hidden in a shed behind Luke’s ex-girlfriend’s parents’ house, and Hermes had responded with giving Alexander the mission to destroy the agent of Hecate that was working Oklahoma City.

As they were on their way to Ashleigh Merryweather’s house to see if they could identify the agent of Hecate, Lance received a call on his car phone. A mysterious voice told him that he was to meet him at a bus stop in half an hour, alone. The group set out to guard the location and try to keep an eye on Lance. As the meeting took place, Lance was offered a deal: give the mysterious man the dagger of Hecate, and he receives a Denarian coin. The man then handed him a business card with the name Nicodemus on it.

The team then went to the Merryweather house, and Alexander used his Sight on it, revealing that it was a place where very bad things happened and that Circe was there. The team then decided to go all-out on a plan and recruited a few guys from Mama JoAnn’s Catfish and Ribs. They also put diluted three-eye into water guns and applied moley (a protective agent against Circe’s power.) They called in the favor owed by summer, as well, and they got a small band of centaurs to help them.

While the main team of Davvi, Alexander, and Luke entered through the back, their helpers and Lance created a distraction in the front. Gunfire, agitated spirits, and flames then caused many problems for the residents of the house, as the three primary attackers entered through the backdoor and encountered a White Court vampire and a goon. They fought off these two, and they moved on. Lance, after causing havoc, then sped away to the secret location of Hecate’s dagger in order to take Nicodemus’s offer.

The three true warriors then barged into the living room of the manor and encountered Ashleigh Merryweather, who was really Circe herlsef. They then engaged in a hard-fought battle, spells, claws, swords, and bullets whizzing everywhere. At one point, Alexander rode atop Luke in wolf form to deliver a fantastic blow, and finally, after dealing out a lot of damage, they managed to take down the wicked witch goddess who cursed Alexander with her dying breath: “You will be betrayed by your brother.”

Lance, unsure exactly what direction to go, called his demonic mother and asked her for advice. She felt that Nicodemus’s offer wasn’t good enough and that if he gave her the dagger, she could find a better buyer. We leave the session with Lance undecided on the direction he would take: trade with Nicodemus, trade using his mother, or leave the dagger there.

[The team was awarded a major milestone for their gallantry and development. This also completes the Circe story arc, and the next arc will probably follow a different path. Players, feel free to comment on what sort of path you’d like to see the story go.]
